What is The Sift?
The Sift is an upcoming dimension that’s beautiful, vibrant, and—according to the official Xbox Wire post—“teeming with souls.” It introduces two known biomes: Meadows, a lush and lively landscape, and Carapace, whose name hints at something more shell-like or buggy. While full details are still under wraps, Mojang has confirmed The Sift will come to both Édition Java et Édition Bedrock (including Pocket Edition on mobile) in 2027.
But you won’t have to wait that long to step inside. The Sift makes its debut first in Minecraft Dungeons 2, which launches on September 29, 2026. That action-RPG spin-off will let you fight through The Sift right away, giving a sneak peek at its unique aesthetic before it hits the main game. When it finally arrives in vanilla Minecraft, expect a new portal or travel method—Mojang hasn’t yet revealed how we’ll get there.
Ice Caves: A Frozen Underground Biome
Coming sooner is the next Minecraft game drop, featuring Ice Caves. This new underground biome will bring icy caverns to your overworld, complete with natural icicles hanging from the ceiling and ice crystals that emit a soft glow. It’s a cool (literally) addition for explorers who love caving and a perfect reason to craft some warm leather boots. This update will apply to both Java et Roche-mère editions, so no matter where you play, you can dig down and chill out.
Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2
Mark your calendars: Minecraft is hitting Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. Whether you play Java or Bedrock, the Switch 2 version will be the Bedrock Edition, so you can cross-play with friends on other platforms. If you’re upgrading from the original Switch, your worlds and purchases should carry over (Mojang hasn’t stated otherwise, but official details are still coming).
