Get your warmest leather armor ready, because a deep freeze has hit the Overworld! The Minecraft Bedrock Edition 26.60 update is out now, and it’s bringing a flurry of chilling new experimental features from the upcoming fourth game drop of 2026. This minor update, released on October 27, 2026, introduces a treacherous new underground biome, a dangerous new hostile mob, and a bone-chilling status effect that will make you think twice about a winter adventure.

Before you dive in, remember that these features are experimental. They are part of the “Drop 4 of 2026” and must be toggled on manually. When creating a new world or editing an existing one’s settings, scroll down to the “Experiments” section and flip the switch for “Drop 4 of 2026” to turn on the frozen fun. This guide will walk you through everything new, from generation details to brewing recipes.

“Brrrr! Did the temperature just drop? Something drop related is going on, namely the addition of some experimental features from the upcoming game drop! Dive into the ice caves to check out the new icicles, ice crystals, and frostbites – if you dare!”
– Jay Wells, Mojang

Version and Compatibility

This update is for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition only. It applies to all Bedrock platforms, including Windows 10/11, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices (Pocket Edition). As noted in the official changelog, this release also marks the arrival of Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch 2 with support for Vibrant Visuals.

What’s New in Bedrock 26.60

The Ice Caves Biome

Buried deep beneath the snowy plains and other cold biomes, you’ll now find the gorgeous but dangerous Ice Caves. This is a full new underground biome, composed mainly of Packed Ice and Calcite, giving it a brilliant blue-and-white shimmer. It’s not just a pretty place; it’s home to two new blocks with unique behaviors.

New Blocks: Icicles and Ice Crystals

Look up while you’re in an Ice Cave and you’ll see the spikes: Icicles. These sharp blocks generate on ceilings and can grow up to a staggering five blocks long, pointing downward. They aren’t just decoration. If a player or mob causes one to break, it will fall as a gravity-affected entity. Any entity hit by a falling Icicle takes damage, so tread (and mine) carefully!

On the cave floor, you’ll spot Ice Crystals. Similar to Amethyst Clusters from the Caves & Cliffs update, these are crystal-like blocks that sprout from the ground and give off a faint, cold light. Perfect for an eerie, atmospheric base build.

The Frostbite: A New Hostile Mob

No new biome would be complete without a new enemy to call it home. The Frostbite is a frozen Zombie variant that spawns in cold and icy biomes, including the new Ice Caves. This blue-skinned menace is more versatile than its rotting cousin. It can switch between melee and ranged combat, hurling Ice Balls at players who keep their distance.

  • Transformation: A standard Zombie or Husk will transform into a Frostbite if it stands inside Powder Snow. Conversely, a Frostbite will revert to a normal Zombie if it stays underwater for too long.
  • Drops: When defeated, a Frostbite can drop Rotten Flesh and the new Ice Ball item.

The Freezing Mob Effect

Getting hit by a Frostbite’s Ice Ball, or just spending too much time in perilous cold, can inflict the new Freezing status effect. This is a dangerous one.

  • Initial Effect: Your screen will shake violently, and your jump height will be reduced.
  • Progression: If you don’t warm up, the freezing state advances and eventually begins dealing continuous damage, much like when you’re stuck in Powder Snow.

To fully protect yourself from the Freezing effect, you’ll need a full suit of Leather Armor. Wearing the full set prevents the freezing state from activating, stopping the damage and shaking. However, it does not remove the effect timer, so you’ll still need to wait it out or drink up.

How to Brew Potion of Freezing and Make Arrows

You can bottle this deadly cold for your own use. Here’s what you need for the new recipes.

Required Materials

  • Ice Balls: Dropped by the new Frostbite mob. This is a projectile that deals 4 base damage, scaling down with velocity, and shatters on impact with a frosty particle effect.
  • Awkward Potions: Brewed as normal with Nether Wart and water bottles in a Brewing Stand.
  • Cauldron: Filled with Potion of Freezing.
  • Arrows: Standard arrows from your inventory.

Step-by-Step Brewing Guide

  1. Place an Awkward Potion in the bottom slot of your Brewing Stand.
  2. Place an Ice Ball in the top ingredient slot.
  3. Wait for the brewing process to complete. This creates a Potion of Freezing.
  4. To make Arrows of Freezing, fill a Cauldron with your freshly brewed Potion of Freezing, then simply tap the Cauldron while holding arrows. Each potion fills one-third of the Cauldron and tips up to 16 arrows.

Now you can give your enemies a taste of their own medicine from a safe distance!

Bug Fixes and Other Notes

This isn’t just a content drop. It’s a massive stability release. The update includes more than 600 bug fixes, with 89 of those directly reported by the community. While some reports note a lower number of tracked issues, the official patch notes emphasize a huge push for polish.

What’s Next?

The Ice Caves are just a taste of the fourth 2026 game drop. Keep these experimental features toggled on in your world to be automatically updated as Mojang refines and adds to them. In the meantime, grab your shield and a bucket of milk (to clear that freezing effect!) and start exploring.
