Welcome to the very first edition of the Micdoodle8 Monthly RPG Club! Each month, we’ll spotlight a fantastic RPG experience—sometimes a classic game, sometimes a Minecraft mod or adventure map that scratches that same itch. This month, we’re diving into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its game-changing next-gen update. Even though our site is all about Minecraft, exploring what makes other RPGs great gives us ideas for our own blocky adventures. So grab your silver sword and let’s ride!

Why The Witcher 3’s Next-Gen Update Is Worth Revisiting

Sortie le December 14, 2022, the free next-gen update for The Witcher 3 (available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S) isn’t just a graphical facelift. It added a number of small but meaningful quality-of-life improvements that make the Continent feel more alive—and more forgiving. If you’ve never played, or if it’s been gathering digital dust in your library, now is the perfect time to jump in with the club.

You Can Finally Pet Roach

That’s right—the feature we never knew we desperately needed. Spend a moment with Geralt’s loyal (and occasionally roof-misplacing) horse, and you’ll see a prompt to pat her. It’s just a brief animation, but it deepens that bond between witcher and steed. Minecraft modders, take note: imagine a mod that lets you befriend and pet your tamed horses in a similar way!

Fall Damage Is Less Deadly

Remember how Geralt’s knees seemed made of glass? The next-gen update reduces fall damage, letting you survive drops that would have previously sent you straight to the loading screen. This is a lesson in player comfort that our favorite block game learned long ago—feather falling boots, anyone? But it’s a welcome change for a game where you’re constantly leaping from rocky outcrops.

A New Fast-Travel Post in Crow’s Perch

One of the most-requested tweaks: a new signpost right inside Crow’s Perch, the Bloody Baron’s fortress. Previously, fast traveling there dumped you outside the walls, forcing a long, repetitive jog through the lower village. Now you zip straight to the courtyard. Quality-of-life upgrades like this remind us that sometimes the best mods or map adjustments are the ones that simply cut out needless backtracking.

From the Director’s Mouth: Confidence in the Next Adventure

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who directed The Witcher 3 and is now leading Rebel Wolves’ upcoming vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, recently addressed comparisons between his new project and his old masterpiece. In an interview, he said:

“I feel really confident about our game.”

Fans have been quick to draw parallels, and Tomaszkiewicz seems totally comfortable with that. It’s exciting to think that the same mind that gave us Roach and Gwent is cooking up a new dark fantasy world. While we wait for more news on Dawnwalker, there’s never been a better time to revisit (or discover) the original next-gen Witcher 3 experience.

What’s Next for the RPG Club?

Each month, we’ll pick a new focus. Sometimes it’ll be a major non-Minecraft RPG that inspires the kind of storytelling and mechanics we love to see in mods like Mine and Slash or maps like Wynncraft. Other months we’ll dive directly into a Minecraft RPG modpack or adventure map, providing a dedicated server or guided playthrough. Want to suggest next month’s pick? Join the conversation on our Discord (link in the footer).

Ready to play? If you own The Witcher 3 on PC, the next-gen update is a free download. Fire it up, give Roach a pat, and enjoy a slightly less fragile Geralt. And if you’re more in the mood for blocky adventures, check out our Minecraft RPG servers list to find a community world that captures that same quest-driven spirit.
